About course

The OTHM Level 5 Extended Diploma in Law is designed to give learners opportunities to develop knowledge and understanding of core legal principles while building foundational professional and research skills. It provides a broad legal curriculum across Level 4 and Level 5, with 120 credits studied at each level.

Course requirements

Centres should review each learner’s prior qualifications and experience to ensure they have the necessary foundations to undertake study at this level. English language competence is required for learners from non-majority English-speaking countries.

  • Relevant Level 3 or Level 4 Diploma, GCE Advanced level in 2 subjects, or an equivalent qualification

  • Mature learners over 21 with relevant experience may be considered, subject to centre review and English language requirements where applicable

Assessments

The qualification is assessed through coursework. To achieve a pass, learners must provide evidence that they have met all learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

  • Overall assessment method is coursework

  • Units are graded on a pass/fail basis

  • Level 4 units are assessed through coursework of approximately 3000 words per unit

  • Several Level 5 units are assessed through portfolio of evidence of approximately 3000 words per unit

Progression

Successful completion of this qualification provides opportunities for both academic and professional progression. Learners may continue within OTHM pathways or use the qualification for advanced entry to higher education.

  • Progress to the OTHM Level 7 in International Business Law

  • Gain eligibility for direct entry into Year 3 of a three-year UK bachelor’s degree programme
