The OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Data Science is designed to develop the knowledge and skills needed to extract and communicate business-focused insights from data. It builds understanding of how value and information flow through organisations and how data science can support informed decision-making, business opportunity identification, and improved performance.

Course requirements

Applicants must meet OTHM’s published entry requirements before registration on the programme.

  • An honours degree in a related subject or a UK Level 6 diploma or an equivalent overseas qualification

  • Mature learners with management experience may be considered, and learners must normally be 21 or older at the beginning of the course; applicants from non-majority English-speaking countries must provide evidence of English language competency

Assessments

Assessment is coursework-based and criterion-referenced. To achieve a pass, learners must meet all learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

  • Data Science Foundations is assessed by report

  • Probability and Statistics for Data Analysis, Data Analysis and Visualisation, Advanced Predictive Modelling, and Data Mining, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are assessed by report plus source code

  • Advanced Computing Research Methods is assessed by report

  • Typical assessment length is approximately 3500 words per unit, with overall grading on a Pass/Fail basis

Progression

The qualification enables learners to progress into or within employment and also supports progression to further study.

  • Progress into data science, analytics, AI, or related professional roles

  • Progress within existing employment through advanced technical and analytical capability

  • Progress to Master’s top-up programmes in the UK and overseas with advanced standing
